Genaro Ming Perez - Ming Decorations tea and drinks cart design from the 60s
Dimensions: W76 x D40 x H70 cm. Open: W76 x D80 x H80 cm.
An authentic piece of modern Brazilian design from the 1960s, this tea cart was created and patented by Genaro Ming Perez for Ming Móveis e Decorações , a family-run company established in 1949 that valued handcrafted care and innovation in Brazilian furniture.
Originally designed as a tea cart , this model is surprisingly ingenious: when fully opened and its structure locked, it transforms into a side table , used in family gatherings to accommodate children's meals or as a support surface. A true novelty in the domestic market at the time, it became a constant presence in the homes of family members and customers of the brand.
The piece is made of solid ivory wood , handcrafted from the preparation of the raw material. The wood was cut, stacked on rooftops to receive sun and rain from all sides until it reached the ideal drying point, preventing future warping. Only then was it carefully transformed into table legs, chairs, and structures like this one, always with a hand-finished touch.
The finishing process was equally meticulous: after sanding each piece individually, varnish was applied using the traditional "doll" technique, where cotton prepared by the polisher ensured a deep and lasting shine. This finish, done by hand by masters, guaranteed furniture of the highest quality, designed to last for generations.
More than just a piece of furniture, this tea cart carries with it the memory of the Ming family's love for woodworking and dedication to artisanal excellence. A rare, original period piece that combines the intelligent functionality of modern Brazilian design with the poetry of its family history.
