A benchmark in Brazilian modern furniture design, CIMO (Companhia Industrial de Móveis), founded in 1921 in Rio Negrinho - Santa Catarina, by brothers Jorge and Martin Zipperer, who studied carpentry at the Liceu de Artes e Ofícios in São Paulo, initially produced chair legs using leftover imbuia wood from the manufacture of boxes at one of the family's companies.
At that time, quality furniture was not produced on a large scale in Brazil. Therefore, Cimo positioned itself and became a pioneer in the country, developing and industrially manufacturing a wide variety of furniture to meet the growing demand in homes, schools, public institutions, offices, theaters, and cinemas. In 1924, they sold approximately 60,000 cinema chairs and armchairs.
