PIERRI POULAN FOR ARTFORT (NETHERLANDS) WITH MANUFACTURER'S SEAL - GLOBE CHAIR WITH OTTOMANO DESIGN 1960s. WOODEN FRAME COVERED IN FABRIC. VERY COMFORTABLE BASE! THIS ICONIC CHAIR WAS CELEBRATED FOR HAVING APPEARED IN A JAMES BOND FILM. NETHERLANDS, EARLY 1960s. 95 (H) X 74 (D) X 100 (W) CM. NOTE: Globe is the first of the chairs created by Pierre Paulin for Artifort. Designed in 1960, this was one of the pieces that allowed Artifort to expand internationally in the area of interior design. The Globe chair has a luxurious and elegant design that made use of the latest technological advances of the time. The design was introduced to an audience of millions in the first James Bond film, Dr. No, in 1962, and has remained a popular and timeless design icon. Many people who see the Globe chair feel a slight touch of early 1960s nostalgia, but Pierre Paulin's creation still excites with its sinuous form, exceptional comfort, and modern space-age appeal. Pierre Paulin's Little Globe is the perfect complement to the wider-proportioned Globe, and each looks fantastic when paired in small to medium-sized groups in residential and commercial settings. Mentioning Artifort and Pierre Paulin immediately comes to mind. The brand and the designer are intimately linked. Their deep bond and history of collaboration are legendary in the design world, and each has undeniably propelled the other to greater heights of commercial success and critical acclaim. In the early 1960s, Paulin's sculptural designs were so successful and sought after in the international market that Artifort's production facilities could barely keep up with demand. French Presidents Pompidou and Mitterrand commissioned Paulin to design interiors for the Élysée Palace in Paris, further enhancing his notoriety and importance as a visionary and talented designer. Pierre Paulin continued to design and collaborate with Artifort until his death on June 13, 2009, in Montpellier, France. In November 2009, Paulin was posthumously awarded the prestigious title of "Royal Designer of Industry" by the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufacturers and Commerce. Today, Pierre Paulin's designs are included in the permanent collections of prestigious museums worldwide.
