 Harry Bertoia (1915 - 1978) was an Italian-American designer and scholar who was particularly prominent in the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s. Born in Italy in 1915, Bertoia immigrated to the United States in 1930, where he developed a remarkable career.
 One of his most significant contributions was the creation of furniture pieces that combined aesthetics with functionality. Bertoia is perhaps best known for his metal mesh chairs, especially the famous "Diamond Chair," which became an icon of modern design. This chair, with its thin-lined metal frame and sculptural form, was innovative for its minimalist approach and for challenging the conventions of furniture design at the time. In the 1950s, Bertoia worked in collaboration with the Knoll furniture company, where his creations stood out in the modern design movement. His pieces were not only functional but also crafted as sculptures, reflecting his art background and creative vision. In addition to chairs, he also created tables and other furniture that integrated diverse materials such as wood and metal.
 During this period, Bertoia also explored sound with his sound sculptures.
